Rainham, Kent - Local Amenities
Rainham has an excellent local shopping centre with a Tesco, Iceland and Boots, as well as independent retailers including a large bookshop. There is also a Thursday market specialising in local fresh produce. Local leisure facilities include the Oasthouse Theatre, where the Rainham Theatrical
Society puts on regular performances, and Splashes leisure pool with a flume and wave machine.
A wider selection of shopping, sporting and leisure facilities can be found in the nearby ‘Medway’ towns of Gillingham, the scenic Rochester with its famous cathedral, and Chatham with its historic dockyards. The excellent Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre is only a mile away.
There are plenty of open spaces on the nearby banks of the Medway, with beautiful nature trails at Riverside Country Park, and parkland walks and fishing at Capstone Country Park. Sailing, golf and other sporting activities are all well catered for in the vicinity.
Educationally, Rainham is extremely well provided for, with 11 primary schools, three secondary schools and one grammar school. In addition there are six adult education centres in the Medway region, one of which is based at Rainham Grammar School.
For those who commute to the capital, Rainham railway station has direct services to London Bridge, London Charing Cross and Victoria in just over an hour. The rail link from Ebbsfleet International to London St Pancras is scheduled for Autumn 2007 and is only 15 minutes drive from Eleanor Court.
