Eastleigh - Local Amenities

Eastleigh itself has a proud industrial past, born as a railway town with the yards employing generation after generation of its residents. But it’s hardly been slow to adapt to the best of all that’s modern.

The award-winning Swan Centre Mall has a choice of stores encompassing Boots, Littlewoods, Tesco, WHSmith and Next, and houses a branch of the Hampshire Library.

The mall planning encompassed some 1,500 parking spaces. A multi-screen cinema is planned. Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury’s are located at nearby Hedge End. On Thursdays and Saturdays the market arrives in town.

Education is high on the list of priorities in Eastleigh, and prime examples of its thoroughly respected primary and secondary schools are the Beacon Junior, Fair Oak and the much in demand Thornden School at Chandler’s Ford.

The unique location of this market town forms a vibrant hub to a network of road, rail and air. There are two main railway stations on the London Waterloo direct line, one in the town centre and the other, Parkway, serving the international airport.

The excellent road and rail links bring the south coast, with Bournemouth, Poole and stunning Sandbanks, into easy reach. The New Forest is a mere 20 minutes away.

The Borough of Eastleigh extends to Southampton Water at charming Netley, and encompasses the river villages of Botley & Hamble.

The natural beauty of 440 acre Itchen Valley Country Park is 15 minutes away, with woodland and meadows adjoining the River Itchen. The park is home to many wild animals and offers guided nature trails, with regular events planned for children.

Golfers can enjoy several courses in the immediate area, and the Hampshire Rose Bowl is the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club. The recently completed St Mary’s Stadium is the venue for premiership football.
